[Movie] Transformers - Dark of the Moon

Well, i'm still kind of dizzy after watching the third and, apparently, last installment in director's Michael Bay's Transformers movie series, but i decided to make this review while the film was still fresh in my mind, because i can foresee i will be forgetting it pretty soon.
While i really like the first movie in the series and was mildly entertained with the second one, i have to say this one was an overall disappointment for me. Don't get me wrong, the visuals were amazing and the action was non-stop, but that was pretty much all the film had going for it. Background music was just standard, acting was very bland and the plot was just weak.. even though it presented many ideas about world events that i feel are worth talking about and may be the only redeeming quality of the entire production going into it.

It has been highly speculated that the astronauts of the Apollo 11 mission to the moon found alien ruins there, and that's what is exactly portrayed right at the beginning of the film. Also, the whole idea of a new planet coming into Earth's orbit probably stems from the many speculations about Nibiru or Hercolubus or Planet X, something that also was portrayed right at the end of The Event's TV series first season ending.

I also found of interest the use of the Washington monument as a way to open a portal between Earth and the Moon, something that could also be linked to The Event series. With all the conspiracy theories about Washington D.C. and its architecture, this bit of the movie is definitely worth paying some attention to.

Even more revealing was the part where the Autobots use a space shuttle to leave Earth, and then this is destroyed in a blatantly similar way to the Challenger's disaster in 1986. This is very likely also very connected to more conspiracy theories about what really transpired in that event, with many people saying saying the shuttle carried weapons to be deployed in space and that this fact was the reason that "UFOs" took down the ship. I never paid much attention to that theory, but seeing this movie makes a point of referencing it, it's definitely making me rethink my views about it.

Of Megan Fox's absence in this film, i don't find much to mention in the subject… to me, she was always just eye candy in the previous two installments of the series and her character wasn't really relevant: she was there to look good and attract a bigger male audience, and that was about it. With her gone, the Victoria Secrets' model they put in her place, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, didn't do much of a better or worse job… she did her job of looking hot at all times, even when not needed at all, and in spite of her lecturing Megatron having a major influence on the ending of the movie, her character was completely forgettable and irrelevant.

Finally, what was up with the constant change of camera angles (almost every 2 seconds in some parts) and the constant background music? I don't think there was a single second of the movie without some action soundtrack behind it… i mean, i know this is Michael Bay's way of doing things, but i think he really overdid it this time. It seems he considers his entire audience to suffer from ADD, because it was almost impossible to focus your attention on anything happening on the screen.

Design wise, i have always loved the Transformers' organic look in these films… i like that they look mechanic but at the same time organic in nature, as i would imagine alien machinoids beings to be, so no complains there at all.
To sums things up, if you're looking for fast paced action and a tonload of special and astonishing visual effects, then you probably will enjoy this movie a lot, but if you're looking for anything else, you probably won't find it here.
