[Movie] The Hangover Part II

A joke told two times may elicit some light laughs, but it definitely won't be as much fun as the first time it was told, and this is the best way to describe the second installment in this series of movies: you basically get the very same film as the first part, only the setting is changed from Las Vegas to Bangkok, Thailand, with some minor details changed here and there.. but like I said, it's pretty much the same thing all over again.

And that's pretty much the plot here. Stu is the one getting married this time around to a Thai girl, so the whole gang travels there. Alan once again drugs them all, they wake up after a night of partying, they can't remember anything, one of the group is missing, they have to find him, many actions scenes later, they do, wedding takes place, they see pics of the night before. That's about it.

WHAT TO LOVE
Not much to love here, actually. There are still some funny moments (like when they mistake Leslie Chow's micro-penis for a spider's nest, or Stu having sex with the tranny prostitute), but most of them are just recreations from the previous movie, so its fun factor is pretty debatable. So once again, the checking of the photos at the end is still the best part in this series.

WHAT TO HATE
Oh wow, there's everything to hate here? Probably that would be an exaggeration, but seriously, they just wanted to capitalize in the success of the first movie… by redoing the same movie, almost carbon-copy. And they tried to have some type of moral to the story as well? Like when Stu confronts his father-in-law with the worst discourse ever, and we're supposed to believe that was enough for him to gain his grace? Psssht.

WHAT TO IGNORE
The Teddy character. So much relevance and emphasis is put into proving just how much he means to his father, that we're meant to be really worried when he gets lost, and then when he meets his father again with a lost finger, thinking that moment everything is gonna go to hell.. his dad just brushes it off like it was nothing? Such a weak plot element that could have totally be left out of the film and no one would have noticed. He was just there to be the "lost character", that's all.

THE VERDICT
A bad funny movie. I mean, yeah, it's still a funny movie somehow, but it misses its mark so much, it's not funny, while still being funny. I don't know, it's one of those love/hate situations, mostly hating everything and just loving that it reminds you of how good the first movie was. Definitely would NOT recommend it to anyone who already watched Part I.
